History

About the Temple:

Built in the 11th century by Raja Raja Chola I, the Brihadeeswarar Temple is one of the greatest achievements of Chola architecture. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features a massive central dome, known as the Vimana, which rises to 66 meters in height, making it one of the tallest temple towers in the world. The temple also houses a massive Nandi statue carved from a single stone and weighing 25 tons. With its intricate carvings and towering architecture, the Brihadeeswarar Temple remains one of the most iconic temples in India.
